A Day in the Life of Peter Parker by Marcos Martin

“ Cursing the world for being the way it is won’t get us anywhere. But I do want to admit to what it is. I want to admit to what I am. And, yeah, that includes some negative things. There’s a violence in this world and in me, myself. There’s also an anger there. But I’m trying to use these poems to get the balance right, right? For every inch of fear, there has to be some bravery in there to ballast it. Is ballast a verb? I hope it is. It is now. We live in this world, but I think poetry springs from the world that lives in us. ”

Someone went away / but once they were here / so I don’t die / instead I see a movie / the one about a boy / falling into / the green screen / sky lit up / phosphorescent / spiders and chandeliers / like that one time / near an island / out on the lash / I fell out of you / you laughed / your eyes closed / spread wide / standing open / I asked you / who are you / pretending I am / I did / you said / I’m pretending you / are you / drawing a jacked up heart / across my hand / in every airport / rocking this depression electric / I dry swallow / a video pill / we smoke glitter / until my suit sounds good / I long to be alive / when the world ends / so in love / with someone / I end up / ending everyone

one must be one
to ever be two

and if you
were a day
I’d find a way

to live
through you

“ Loneliness is never overcome, but it’s
no use talking to children born
into a family of people. The
history of the heart doesn’t lie.
It evaporates. I love you like
knives, like I don’t remember why. ”

“Kid… comics will break your heart.”

That gorgeous @dylanhorrocks drawing of Jack Kirby arrived in the mail this week.

Love love love.

This is so beautiful. If Horrocks ever decides to do another one of these (or sell a print), I’m first in line.

SUN CHILD by (A Resounding Yes)

This song was written and performed by a friend from college. He posted it on Myspace years ago (2005? 2006? The heart…it boggles…) and it’s a sound that never really leaves me. If I ever made a movie, I’d write a scene just so one of the characters can pace around a room while ‘Sun Child’ plays in the background. I wish everyone could hear this song. Thanks, Judah.
